So for our last post of the year, we thought we’d recap with 7 of the most popular stories we ran this year.
Summary: Vetted Capital, co-founded by Charles Tapp and Dr. Aaron Wallace, is a Denver-based investment firm focusing on early-to-growth stage investments in the pet care sector, particularly at the intersection of consumer products, healthcare, and technology.
Vetted Capital's $150 million venture capital fund is dedicated to the pet industry, highlighting its enormous growth potential and increasing appeal to investors. It explores how the fund aims to bridge gaps in innovation, support emerging businesses, and address unmet pet care, health, and technology needs.
Summary: AI is revolutionizing the pet care industry, transforming everything from health monitoring and personalized nutrition to behavior analysis and veterinary diagnostics. Shaina Denny highlights the potential of AI-driven tools to enhance pet wellness, improve accessibility to expert care, and offer pet owners data-driven solutions tailored to their companions' unique needs.
She also touches on ethical considerations, the balance between technology and human expertise, and the opportunities for innovation in a growing market.
Summary: Ron Levi, founder of DOGTV, discusses how his personal experience with his cat, Charlie, inspired the creation of a television channel designed to alleviate pets' loneliness and anxiety when left alone.
Initially met with skepticism, DOGTV has grown over 14 years to provide content that soothes dogs and educates pet owners. Ron notes the increasing global trend of pet humanization, with markets like Brazil showing significant growth in pet care and media consumption.
Summary: Gil Bolotin explains how veterinary practices can leverage technology to scale efficiently, improve patient care, and streamline operations. Through his unique insights, he highlights strategies such as implementing digital tools for scheduling, communication, and record management and the role of data-driven decision-making in scaling a veterinary business.
The article also touches on balancing growth with maintaining a personal connection to clients and pets, demonstrating how innovation can align with compassionate care.
Summary: Why not invest in a pet business? We outline why investing in a pet franchise in 2024 is an attractive opportunity, highlighting the growth potential in the pet industry driven by increasing pet ownership and spending.
We explore key benefits such as established brand recognition, proven business models, and the ability to tap into a booming market with relatively lower risks compared to starting a new business from scratch.
Summary: In one of our more popular interviews, Basel Nassar, CEO of Boss Nation Brands, discusses his journey from founding a Greek yogurt company to creating innovative pet products under the Boss Dog® and Boss Cat® lines. He emphasizes the importance of commitment in business ventures and shares insights on branding, product development, and the significance of digestive health solutions in the pet industry.
Summary: Last but not least. This was shortly after we attended the Global Pet Expo. We shared some key pet industry insights, consumer behaviors, and market trends. Highlighting generational differences in a multitude of consumer behaviors.
The piece also notes a generational divide in shopping preferences, with younger consumers favoring online platforms and subscription services, and older consumers preferring brick-and-mortar stores.
While some of these charts have since slightly changed, I’m positive most of the data is still highly relevant and accurate going into 2025.
